Owen started first grade last week. We was excited to start and make friends, but also a little nervous about being away all day. His kindergarten was half day in Vegas, and all the kids here had full day. That, and the fact that his birthday is a couple weeks after the cut-off here made me wonder how on par he would be with the rest of his class.
Can't forget little sister. She's cute. And she always has too much stuff everywhere she goes. Such a girl.
Here goes Owen into his classroom. Good luck, buddy!
We keep hearing about how great the school and teachers are here. I think it is cool how this school is Meadow Lark, and has bird houses hanging out front. Very fitting!
Lots of bird houses! Birds even live in them.
And here is Owen at pick-up at the end of the day. He did great, and is doing awesome as a first grader! He can read and knew how to spell pretty much all of his spelling words for his first week, so I don't think I have much to worry about. He is a quick and bright kid.
Notice the big space in his teeth? His daddy pulled his front teeth the week before school. They have been really loose for a very long time, but Owen has been babying them too much for them to come out on their own. Our bigger concern was that he had a mesiodens, an extra front tooth growing that needed to come out so it wouldn't affect his permanent teeth. So we took Owen to daddy's office where Owen was numbed and prepped, and his baby teeth popped out without effort. Daddy had to work on that extra tooth to get it out, which surprised us both. We had no idea the root was that big. It was slightly traumatic for Owen, but he was a trooper. He was just glad it was over. Look at that honker!
