So, January was fabulous, but we paid for it with February. Well, the first week of it, I guess. It involved a broken dishwasher, a miscarriage, and a blown-out tire on the freeway. Then throw in some sick kids and a big test for the husband, just for good measure.
Have you ever felt that life was going so well and so smoothly, something was just bound to make your world crash down? That is how I have felt the past few months. Life was blissful and happy, so I was mentally preparing for something awful to happen, just in case. And when things come down on the Miller family, they come down hard. Check out
this post, if you want a reminder of the last time it happened. But I can't complain, because honestly things could always be worse. We are extremely grateful for good friends and family to step in and show their love and support. We are so blessed.
I will try to make this short and sweet, without too many gory details. First, the dishwasher breaks. Bummer. We have had issues with it for a while and knew it was a matter of time. I went and picked out a new one, which would take 20 days to be delivered. (!?!!?) Whatever. Then bought stacks of paper products to make me feel better.
Then last Sunday I started bleeding. That shouldn't have been happening. I was 13 weeks pregnant. It calmed down, so I figured I would call the dr in the morning, and went to bed. Woke up at 3 am in a big, BIG mess. Sweet husband woke up to clean up after me for the next 3 hours. When the kids woke up, he packed them up and took them to his sisters house. Then he headed straight to school for a big test he had studied weeks for. After an hour or so, I decided I wasn't safe at home alone, because I was feeling faint and loosing too much blood. Luckily the er was empty. They took me straight in. After an exam and ultrasound, my dr decided I needed a D & C, stat. I called Nick and he made it right as they were prepping me for surgery. I was soooo happy to see him. During surgery my blood pressure was getting too low because I was loosing too much blood, so they started me on a blood transfusion, and another one as I was in recovery. They released me that night around 9, once my blood levels and tests were looking better.
I have been on the fence about blogging this experience, but decided I wanted to document both the good and bad. Not because I want or need attention or sympathy. I had a rough couple of days, but mostly because I had felt beat up and weak and sore. I am on the mend, and doing great. And honestly, not that it makes a difference, but it was a surprise/unplanned pregnancy. We were waiting to hear the heartbeat to make any announcement, and the set appointment was 2 weeks away! I am glad we decided to wait. There was a few times I wanted to share, but felt that I shouldn't. When I mentioned that I had been mentally prepared for the worst, I think this was what I was preparing for, without knowing. I didn't feel attached to this pregnancy yet. Nick and I both had suspisions, and didn't know why. Now we know it just wasn't meant to be. We can be okay with that.
That night on the way to pick up our kids from his sisters house, Nick had a tire blow-out on the freeway. Drove on his partly flat spare tire to get 2 new tires, and then to pick up the kids 2 hours late. What a trooper.
My mom made a short notice decision to fly out and help with the kids. It has been a blessing to have her here, so that I could get much needed rest. I have been more weak than anything. Both kids have had yucky colds, so the extra help was especially nice. She has kept my washing machine and dryer running around the clock, also.
I am convinced that things like this happen to bring people closer together, to serve and to love each other. To recognize blessings and all the good we have around us. Especially good friends who bring in meals, drop off treats and flowers, and send texts of support. They were all appreciated and enjoyed. We are definitely blessed. Thank you. Life is good.
